J-Rod had another wrestling company checking her out before WWE invited her to Minneapolis.
Fightful Select revealed that the current OVW Women’s Champion recently worked a tryout match for TNA during television tapings in Nashville. Her name was also being discussed by the company around the time WWE announced its SummerSlam weekend tryout class.
“J-Rod was on TNA’s creative radar recently as she was announced for her WWE tryout. Those we spoke to confirmed that she was given a tryout match in Nashville as well.”
TNA holds tryout matches during many of its taping weekends, but J-Rod was not a brand-new name inside the company. She had also been discussed under the previous regime. That interest did not lead to a deal at the time, because Tommy Dreamer did not believe she was ready to join the roster.
“Her name came up under the last regime as well, and Tommy Dreamer didn’t believe she was ready as of yet.”
J-Rod has continued adding to her résumé since then. She currently holds the OVW Women’s Championship, previously worked for WOW Women of Wrestling and is part of the American Gladiators reboot.
She has also attended a WWE tryout in the past and will now get another shot in front of company officials during SummerSlam weekend in Minneapolis. TNA may have passed on J-Rod before, but WWE is giving her another opportunity to prove she is ready for a bigger stage.
