Nick Aldis finally got the fight he wanted.
Just days after costing GUNTHER a massive victory at Saturday Night’s Main Event, the SmackDown General Manager came face-to-face with The Ring General during WWE’s SummerSlam Kickoff show. What started as GUNTHER demanding payback quickly spiraled into chaos—and by the time it was over, Triple H had made their SummerSlam match official.
GUNTHER interrupted Triple H during the Kickoff event, making it clear he wasn’t there to move on from what happened at Madison Square Garden. Still furious over Aldis costing him the match, GUNTHER wanted revenge. Triple H didn’t exactly offer much sympathy either, reminding him that everything happening now was the consequence of his own actions over the past several weeks.
Before the situation could calm down, Aldis walked out. The SmackDown General Manager didn’t apologize or try to explain himself. Instead, he told GUNTHER that he’d pushed him too far, and within seconds the two were throwing punches. Security had no chance of keeping them apart as the fight spilled across the stage, with GUNTHER opening Aldis up and leaving him bloodied during the exchange.
The blood only seemed to make Aldis fight harder. After taking the worst of the early exchange, Aldis battled back, turned the tables on GUNTHER and stood tall as officials desperately tried to restore order. By that point, it was obvious the rivalry had gone far beyond fines, suspensions and surprise attacks.
Triple H had seen enough. With both men still trying to get at each other, WWE’s Chief Content Officer stepped in and made it official—Nick Aldis and GUNTHER will meet one-on-one at SummerSlam next month to finally settle one of WWE’s most personal rivalries.
Considering how quickly their confrontation turned into an all-out fight, it’s hard to imagine either man waiting patiently until SummerSlam. If Saturday Night’s Main Event was the spark, the Kickoff show poured gasoline on the fire, and now the stage is set for one of the biggest grudge matches on the SummerSlam card.
