Grayson Waller has a message for WWE stars who disappear from television and then start complaining about their booking online — do something about it. The current NXT Champion says he could have easily gone down that road himself, but instead, he went back to NXT and changed his own situation.

Speaking on NotSam Wrestling, Waller opened up about why returning to NXT became so important after things weren’t going the way he wanted on WWE’s main roster. For Waller, the first step was reminding himself just how good he could be when given the opportunity. That confidence certainly isn’t lacking anymore. Now that he’s sitting on top of NXT as champion, Waller believes RAW and SmackDown will eventually realize they dropped the ball with him.

“Part of the reason that I wanted to go back to NXT was because I needed to remind myself first — that took the first few weeks. Now that I’m the NXT Champion, I know how good I am. Now my job is to remind the guys on RAW and SmackDown — hey, you fumbled the ball back, and you’re gonna regret it.”

Waller then turned his attention toward wrestlers who handle their own frustrations very differently. He said some talent disappear from WWE television and immediately start complaining on social media or taking their grievances to wrestling dirt sheets.

Waller made it clear that’s not how he wanted to handle his own situation. In his mind, wrestlers basically have two lanes when things aren’t working out, and he chose to actually make something happen rather than publicly complain about it.

“You’ve got two lanes. Some wrestlers will disappear — they will go on Twitter and complain and moan and go to the dirt sheets and say certain things. But that’s not me.”

Instead of waiting around for WWE to suddenly change its mind about him, Waller decided he needed to take control of what he could. Going back to NXT became his way of forcing the issue and rebuilding the momentum he felt he’d lost.

“I sat there and went, ‘Things aren’t going the way I need them to go, so I’m gonna do something about it. I’m gonna make that happen for myself.’ And that’s exactly what I’ve done for myself.”

Now Waller has the NXT Championship around his waist and a pretty big chip on his shoulder about proving WWE’s main roster wrong. If his plan was to make people pay attention again instead of complaining about being overlooked, he’s clearly convinced that returning to NXT did exactly that.
