Former WWF wrestler Siva Afi has died, with his family confirming the news.
Book Pro Wrestlers shared the update and paid tribute to Afi, remembering both his wrestling career and the life he built outside the ring.
“We are saddened to learn that Siva Afi has passed away, as confirmed by his family.”
Afi’s career stretched far beyond the squared circle. He also worked as Burt Reynolds’ bodyguard and stuntman, but those who knew him inside the wrestling business remembered him just as much for the kind of person he was backstage. The tribute ended with a message to Afi’s loved ones.
“From his memorable WWF run to his work as Burt Reynolds’ bodyguard and stuntman, Siva lived a remarkable life. More importantly, he earned the respect of those who shared a locker room with him—so many of the wrestlers we’ve spoken with over the years remembered him as a genuinely kind and well-liked man.”
“Rest in peace, Siva Afi. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Afi, whose real name was Papali’itele Max Amata Taogaga, began wrestling in the 1970s and built a career that took him around the world. He wrestled nearly 30 matches for New Japan Pro-Wrestling in 1985 before making his way to the WWF, where he competed from 1986 through 1988. Afi remained active for years after his WWF run, with his final match taking place in 1997.
Siva Afi leaves behind a career that crossed wrestling, film and entertainment, but the strongest memories appear to come from the people who shared locker rooms with him and remembered him as one of the good ones.
