WWE has revealed the first teams set to compete in this year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic. The announcement includes a major AAA team, an NXT champion duo and the return of one of WWE’s top tag teams.

Speaking on Busted Open Radio, NXT General Manager Robert Stone shared the first names confirmed for the tournament ahead of the full bracket reveal later this week. Stone first confirmed that The Creed Brothers will be part of this year’s field before revealing two more teams that hadn’t previously been announced.

“This week the bracket will come out with all the teams listed. We already know that The Creed Brothers are in it. But kind of breaking news right now, I will give you two more teams that will be in it. From AAA: Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno. And from NXT: The Vanity Project. Since they’re both champions, those two teams will get a bye in the first round. The other 12 teams—stay tuned to NXT social media. They’re coming out this week.”

Stone’s comments also confirmed that Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno, who currently hold the AAA World Tag Team Championship, and The Vanity Project, the reigning NXT Tag Team Champions, will both receive first-round byes because they enter the tournament as champions.

The remaining 12 teams have yet to be announced, with Stone saying WWE will reveal the rest of the bracket through NXT’s social media channels later this week. WWE first announced the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic during Tuesday night’s episode of NXT. At the time, Stone revealed that this year’s tournament would expand beyond the developmental brand, with teams from RAW, SmackDown and NXT all taking part.

Now, fans have their first look at the field. Along with The Creed Brothers, WWE has confirmed that AAA’s Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno and NXT’s Vanity Project will compete for this year’s Dusty Cup, with two of those teams already advancing straight into the second round.
