The show opens up with a video package recapping CM Punk’s Undisputed WWE Championship win on RAW this past Monday.
Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett then welcomes us to SmackDown.
We then see Nick Aldis in the ring and he welcomes everyone to SmackDown. Aldis says he wants to address his professional situation. Aldis then recalls getting involved in a physical altercation with GUNTHER a few weeks ago. Aldis then says he takes full responsibility for his part of the incident and he is pleased to report that after mediation, he has been officially reinstated as the SmackDown General Manager. Aldis then welcomes new Undisputed WWE Champion CM Punk and Punk makes his way down to the ring.
Aldis then congratulates Punk and welcomes him to SmackDown. Punk then grabs a mic and says he always pauses before coming out in front of a live audience. Punk then says he wondered what he was going to say tonight. Punk then says he missed the WWE Universe. Punk then says he spent the last few months negotiating with WWE management, NBC Universal and the USA Network, spearheaded by Aldis, to bring him to SmackDown. Punk then says the negotiations got expedited and he was called about a title match. Punk then says when title matches fall out of the sky, he takes them. Punk then says he got dressed at home, kissed his wife and drove across town on Monday night. Punk then says he is not like other wrestlers or other champions. Punk then says if you saw what he did on Monday, he will be that champion on Friday night.
Punk then says that means fighting on television and defending his title whenever he can. Punk then says he does not call himself the best in the world because he is cocky. Punk then says it is to motivate him because of all of the people in the locker room who want this title. Punk then says if you think he has something that belongs to you, come and get it. Punk then says if you think you have what it takes to beat the best in the world, come on out. Punk then says he is not hard to find. Punk then says he heard what Sami Zayn had to say about him on social media and he knows how Sami feels. Punk then says Sami you deserve a rematch. Punk then mentions GUNTHER. Punk then says he might regret mentioning his name.
Punk then says we remember what happened the last time they wrestled. Punk then says he knows he can beat GUNTHER. Punk then says let’s do it again. Punk then mentions Finn Bálor and points out that they went to war twice before and if you want to do it on neutral ground, he is his huckleberry. Punk then mentions Royce Keys, Damian Priest and Trick Williams.
Cody Rhodes’ music then interrupts and he makes his way down to the ring. Rhodes then checks Punk’s chin before taking his mic. Rhodes then asks Punk how is his eye. Punk says it looks worse than it feels. Punk then asks Rhodes what does he want to talk about. Rhodes says he did not come out to ask about his eye. Rhodes then says the last time they were in the ring, the situation is mirrored and his eye was blacked. Rhodes then says a championship opportunity fell out of the sky. Rhodes then says there are those opportunities and there are matches that have built for years. Punk then says Rhodes must be talking about them. Punk then says they have subconsciously been avoiding it.
Punk then says maybe that is why he didn’t mention Rhodes’ name. Punk then says they are friends and he didn’t want anything to get in the way of that. Punk then says he thought this would be the main event of WrestleMania and they cannot run away from this any more. Rhodes then says when they were in the ring and he was champion, he told him just say when. He then says does that apply now. Punk then tells Rhodes when. Rhodes then says SummerSlam. Punk then thinks about it and he offers his hand and Rhodes shakes it. Aldis then says the match is official.
We then see Cathy Kelley in the back and she mentions that Jade Cargill asked to face Alexa Bliss. Jade says she is dressed to go and she is going to take care of Charlotte’s friend. Michin then says maybe Charlotte needs to learn some lessons. B-Fab then says Jade will snap Alexa like a twig. Jade then says she is not taking responsibility for what happens to Alexa because that blame is on Charlotte.
Finn Bálor then makes his way down to the ring for the first match of the night and Tama Tonga follows with Talla Tonga.
Singles Match: Finn Bálor vs. Tama Tonga
The match starts off with Finn hitting a double leg take down and a kick. Tama then hits an Irish whip and Finn floats over and he chops Tama a few times. Tama then hits a flying back elbow. Tama then hits a sunset flip, but Finn rolls through and hits a drop kick. Finn then hits a clothesline to send Tama to the floor. Talla then trips Finn as Finn sets for a flip dive. Tama then hits a forearm to the back and he sends Finn into the turnbuckles. Tama then hits a neck breaker and a sliding D for a near fall. Tama then chokes Finn in the ropes. Tama then chokes Finn in the ropes again and the referee pulls Tama out of the way and Talla pulls Finn to the floor. Talla then hits a hot shot onto the apron. Tama then hits a clothesline off the ring steps.
Tama then returns to the ring and the referee starts his count. Finn then beats the count back into the ring and Tama hits some kicks. Tama then hits several cross faces and he snap mares Finn and applies a reverse chin lock. Finn then gets to his feet, but Tama brings Finn back to the mat. Finn then gets back to his feet and Tama hits an elbow and punches. Tama then hits an Irish whip and he misses a splash into the corner. Finn then gets a rollup for a near fall. Tama then hits a back breaker and he gets a near fall. Finn then hits several punches and Tama hits a punch. Finn then hits a side Russian leg sweep and both men are down. Finn then hits punches and a flying forearm. Finn then hits a double leg take down and a double stomp. Finn then hits a chop into the corner.
Finn then floats over on an Irish whip, but Tama catches Finn. Finn then escapes a power slam and hits a GTR for a near fall. Finn then hits several kicks to Tama. Tama then hits several punches and a spinning belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Tama then hits a splash into the corner and Tama sets up for another one and hits it. Tama then crawls back and he sets up for another splash, but Finn hits a sling blade. Finn then hits a running drop kick and he goes up top for a Coup de Grace.
Talla then gets on the apron and the referee stops him. Finn then misses a Coup de Grace and Tama hits a Cut Throat and Angel’s Wings for a near fall. Finn then counters a suplex with an inside cradle for a near fall. Tama is then sent to the floor by Finn and Finn hits a flip dive onto Tama and Talla. Finn then sends Tama back into the ring and Finn hits a running drop kick and he goes up top for a Coup de Grace and hits it for the win.

We then see Cathy Kelley in the back with Carmelo Hayes. She asks him about last week and their match tonight. Hayes says he will not talk about proof and deserve because he has always done that. Hayes then says he comes up short some times. Hayes then says Lil Yachty is a good side kick. Hayes then says they say that Trick has aura and charisma and that is good, but that isn’t about inside the ring. Hayes then says he will not throw out catchphrases like Trick.
We then see R-Truth pay off Nathan Frazer and Axiom about the World Cup. Erik and Ivar then show up and say they are sick of these games. He then says he wants the tag title match. Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu then show up and he asks if Truth has seen Solo. Jimmy then tells Truth to tell Solo he is looking for him. Damian Priest then shows up and he says hello to Fatu. Priest then says he has seen Royce and he is here. Fatu then tells Jimmy it is time to go to the ring. Truth then says he wants to know why Priest did that and Priest says that Royce is not their problem.
We then see Nick Aldis on the phone with Sami Zayn. Nick acknowledges that Sami is on a mental health break. Nick then says he has the authority to make the match. GUNTHER then shows up and he hits the table and goes to the other side of Nick. He then says it is his first day back and he made a big mistake. He then says he can help Nick to fix it. He then says he could stooge out Nick. He then says he deserves to be in the ring with the champion. He then says Nick has until the end of the night to fix this. Nick then says he will take it under consideration.
Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu are now in the ring. Jimmy Uso says there is only one reason they are on SmackDown. Jimmy Uso then calls out Solo Sikoa. Royce Keys then comes out instead. Jimmy Uso then says he doesn’t look like Solo Sikoa and asks him, “What are you doing here?” Royce Keys then says Jimmy Uso has been mentioning his name, which is why he is here today. Royce Keys then says The Bloodline’s family business is affecting everyone around here and it’s affecting him. Jimmy Uso then says tonight is about The OTC business. Royce then says Jimmy runs plays for Roman and he isn’t even here tonight. Fatu then gets in Royce’s face. Fatu then says they are tight so let’s keep it like that. He then says you can say anything else about anyone, but when it comes to Roman, please don’t go there. Royce then tells Jacob it doesn’t have to be like that. Jimmy then says Royce doesn’t tell him what to tell them.
He then tells Royce he is not part of this family. Royce then says blood isn’t about family, loyalty is about family. He then says your family has brother fighting brother and cousin fighting cousin. Royce then says he could talk to his family members because he has no family. He then says Jacob has been his family for the last fourteen years. Jimmy then tells Royce he is going to cross a line he can’t come back from. He then asks Royce if he understands him. Royce then says he didn’t come here to fight tonight, but there is a line and he just crossed it. Jimmy then says Royce is crazy. He then says they will put a beating on Royce. Fatu then stops Jimmy and he asks ‘we’? He then says it ain’t no we here. He then says this is on you and he is out. Jimmy then says Royce has crossed the line and he asks for a referee. Jimmy then punches Royce but, Royce hits a short arm clothesline and he clotheslines Jimmy over the top rope and to the floor.
Singles Match: The Bloodline’s “Big Jim” Jimmy Uso vs. Royce Keys
The match starts off with Jimmy cinching in a side head lock. Keys then hits a shoulder tackle and several punches in the corner. Keys then hits an Irish whip and a clothesline. Keys then goes for a slam, but Jimmy gets to his feet and he hits a thrust kick and an uppercut. Jimmy then sets up for a suplex, but Keys counters and hits a suplex of his own. Keys then gets a near fall and Jimmy rolls to the floor. Keys then follows Jimmy to the floor and he goes for a spear, but Jimmy moves and Keys hits the ring steps. Jimmy then goes up top and he hits a cross body for a near fall. Jimmy then cinches in a rear chin lock. Keys then hits several punches and Jimmy hits a dragon whip. Jimmy then sends Keys to the floor and Jimmy hits a suicide dive. Jimmy then sends Keys over the announce desk.
Jimmy then sends Keys into the ring steps. Jimmy then sends Keys back into the ring and Jimmy poses on the apron. Keys then hits several punches and Jimmy hits a head butt and he cinches in a reverse chin lock. Keys then hits several punches and Jimmy hits a pop up Samoan drop. Jimmy then sets up for a running hip into the corner, but Keys recovers and he hits a clothesline. Keys then hits a splash into the corner followed by an Irish whip and another splash. Keys then hits another Irish whip and a splash. Keys then goes for a third combination, but Jimmy hits a boot to Keys. Jimmy then comes off the turnbuckles and Keys hits a power slam. Keys then picks up Jimmy and hits a power slam for a near fall. The straps then come down and Jimmy goes to the floor.
Keys then blocks a punch and Keys slams Jimmy onto the announce desk. Keys then does it again. Keys then breaks the referee’s count and returns to the floor. Keys then gets Jimmy up to send Jimmy into the ring post, but Jimmy escapes and sends Keys into the ring post. Solo Sikoa then shows up behind Jimmy while Jimmy calls for a time out. Solo then punches Jimmy and sets up for a Samoan Spike. Fatu’s music then plays and Solo stops. Fatu and Solo then exchange punches. Fatu then cinches in a Tongan Death Grip and he sends Solo over the ringside barrier. Back in the ring, Jimmy hits a spear for the win.

After the match, Fatu and Solo fight into the ring and Fatu kicks Solo. Keys then stops Fatu and they stare each other down. Fatu then hits a thrust kick and a back senton. Jimmy then gives Fatu a chair and Fatu puts it over Solo’s head. Fatu then buffers and he sets up for the running hip, but he stops short. He then tells Solo this is about the family and the next time, he won’t stop.
We then take a look at Sami’s comments after he lost the title on Monday night.
We then see Cathy Kelley with CM Punk. She asks about GUNTHER’s comments. Punk says he wants everyone to get in line to face him. Candice and Johnny Gargano on a case then show up. Candice says Sami is the only one who cared about Johnny. She then says Sami was hope for the underdog and you stole it. Punk then says Candice had hope for nine days. He then tells Johnny and Candice to get back to what they did best because this isn’t working. Finn Bálor then shows up and says he was hoping that Punk would bump into him. He then welcomes Punk to SmackDown.
We then see Fatal Influence. Jacy Jayne says it was satisfying to watch Lainey Reid beat Brie Bella. Lainey then says they will embarrass Paige and take the tag titles. Jacy then says next week they will be the center of attention in the most famous arena next week. She then says Paige and Brie should be worried that their time is up. Jacy then says you will fall under their influence.
Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair then make their way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Jade Cargill, Michin and B-Fab follow.
Singles Match: Alexa Bliss vs. Jade Cargill
The match starts off with Jade bumping Alexa and walking past her. Alexa then jumps on Jade’s back and Jade hits a snap mare. Alexa then punches Jade in the leg and she hits a double knee strike to the back. Alexa then gets a near fall. Alexa then hits a knee. Alexa then goes for a tilt-a-whirl move, but Jade counters with a back breaker. Alexa is then sent to the floor and Jade follows. Alexa then hits several forearms and Jade hits an elbow. Jade then Irish whips Alexa into the ringside barrier and she poses on the ringside barrier. Jade then kicks Alexa. Jade then stretches Alexa in the ropes and she hits several forearms. Alexa then hits several forearms and Jade hits a back elbow for a near fall.
Jade then cinches in a reverse chin lock. Jade then hits a hard Irish whip and Jade does some push ups. Alexa then hits several kicks to Jade. Jade then misses a bicycle kick in the corner and she gets caught in the ropes. Alexa then hits a knee drop to the leg. Alexa then hits several punches and a knee followed by a drop kick. Alexa then misses a splash in the corner, but Alexa hits a blockbuster for a near fall.
Jade then grabs Alexa by the throat and she puts Alexa in the corner. Alexa then goes for a cross body and Jade catches Alexa. Alexa then escapes and she goes for a Sister Abigail, but Jade counters. Alexa then escapes a slam. B-Fab then trips Alexa and Flair does the same to Jade. Alexa then gets a rollup for a near fall. Michin then runs into a boot from Flair and B-Fab sends Flair into the ring post. Alexa then knocks B-Fab off the apron. Jade then hits a bicycle kick and a Jaded for the win.

After the match, Flair saves Alexa but Michin and B-Fab attack Flair. Flair then punches Michin and clotheslines B-Fab. Jade then hits a thrust kick to Flair and Michin and B-Fab hold Flair while Jade puts Alexa’s arm in a chair and Jade slams the chair into the mat. Flair then checks on Alexa.
We then see Trick Williams in the back and he says he is looking for his title. Trick then says he is going to get Ricky. Yachty then shows up. He says he went to talk to the higher ups and he got Trick a Legacy Title. Trick then says he likes the new belt. Yachty then tells Trick to give a diamond butt whooping on Hayes.
Alexa Bliss is then shown being helped in the back by Charlotte Flair into the trainer’s room.
Carmelo Hayes then makes his way down to the ring for the next match of the night and Trick Williams and Lil Yachty follow.
Non-Title Match: WWE United States Champion Trick Williams vs. Carmelo Hayes
The match starts off with both men locking up. Trick Williams then tosses Carmelo Hayes across the ring. Hayes then applies a side headlock, but Trick put him down with a shoulder tackle. Trick then hits several kicks in the corner. We then see Ricky Saints watching on a monitor in the locker room. Hayes then hits a drop kick and a springboard clothesline. Trick then goes to the floor and Trick gets back into the ring and hits a flap jack. Trick then slaps Hayes. Trick then hits a spinning back heel kick for a near fall. Trick then sends Hayes to the floor and Hayes hits a chop when Trick goes to the floor. Trick then chops back.
Trick then chops Hayes against the ringside barrier. Trick then hits another chop. Hayes then hits several chops of his own. They then go back into the ring and Trick sets up for a delayed vertical suplex, but Hayes counters with an inside cradle for a near fall. Trick then hits a back elbow. Trick then hits a hard Irish whip. Trick then hits another hard Irish whip. Hayes then hits a kick to the knee and a springboard DDT for a near fall. Hayes then hits a punch and Trick punches back. They then go back and forth. Trick then hits a pop up punch, but Hayes hits a La Mistica for a near fall. Trick then blocks a suplex and Hayes lands on his feet on a suplex attemp.
Hayes then lands on his feet on a belly-to-back suplex. Trick then hits a couple leg lariats and a uranage for a near fall. Hayes then lands on his feet and hits a big boot. Hayes then hits a DDT for a near fall. Trick then hits Hayes with a jumping neck beaker for a near fall. Both men are battling it out on the top rope. Hayes then shoves Trick and he hits a Frog Splash for a near fall. Hayes then goes for a First 48, but instead hits a superkick. Hayes then heads to the top rope again, but this time he misses a Frog Splash. Trick then hits another leg lariat for a near fall. Trick then goes for a Trick Kick Cyclone, but Hayes sends him over the top rope and to the floor. He then sends him right into Lil Yachty. Back in the ring, Hayes hits Trick with a First 48. He then heads to the top rope, but Baron Corbin pulls Hayes off the turnbuckles and drops him on the top rope as the referee calls for the bell.

After the match, Corbin attacks Trick and sends him into the ring post. Corbin then hits End of Days to Hayes and to Trick. Corbin then brings the title belt into the ring and he drops it onto Trick and walks over him.
GUNTHER’s music then hits and makes his way down to the ring. GUNTHER then grabs a mic and starts off by saying he gave Nick Aldis time until the end of this evening. GUNTHER then says he has waited long enough and calls out the SmackDown General Manager. Nick Aldis then comes out and he says he had time to think about what GUNTHER had to say. Aldis then says despite their history, he has decided that he will give GUNTHER what he wants. Aldis then says you want Cody Rhodes, you got him. Aldis then says you want CM Punk, you got him. Aldis then says you get them at Madison Square Garden next Saturday. Aldis then says Cody and Punk will face GUNTHER and Sami Zayn in a tag match.
GUNTHER then says Aldis has a chance to fix his mistake. Aldis then says the only mistake he has to fix is that he thought GUNTHER wouldn’t be a giant pain in his ass. Aldis then says the match at SummerSlam will still be Cody and Punk. GUNTHER then attacks Aldis and hits him with elbows. GUNTHER then hits a short arm clothesline. GUNTHER then puts Aldis in a sleeper and officials come to the ring to point at GUNTHER and hold up their hands. Aldis then gets away from GUNTHER, but that is short lived and GUNTHER hits a running boot to Aldis. GUNTHER then returns to the sleeper on Aldis. GUNTHER then leaves the ring and he comes back and puts Aldis in a sleeper for the third time. GUNTHER then hits an elbow and it is time for sleeper number four. GUNTHER then returns to the sleeper. Cody Rhodes’ music then hits and he runs down to the ring presumably to come to Aldis’ aid as the show comes to a close.
