Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins are officially set for SummerSlam, but fans are already making one thing clear — not everybody asked for this one.
The June 29 episode of RAW closed with Reigns and Rollins face-to-face, as WWE leaned hard into their Shield history before locking in another major match between the two former brothers. Rollins made it clear he still sees himself as the one man Roman can’t fully escape, while Reigns said he doesn’t just want to beat Seth anymore — he needs to. After Rollins warned Roman that this may be his last chance to finally put that ghost behind him, Reigns accepted the challenge for SummerSlam.
“At SummerSlam, that’s exactly what I’m gonna do. I accept, brother.”
That should have felt like a huge closing angle, but the internet had other plans. Once the match was made official, several fans took to Twitter and made it clear they are tired of seeing Roman and Seth circle back to each other again. One fan summed up the fatigue pretty bluntly.
“Enough with these 2, been there and seen it enough times”
Another fan was even less patient with WWE going back to the same well: “Same s*** for 4 years.” Then came the bigger complaint: why go back to Roman vs. Seth when WWE could have given fans something fresher? One viewer argued that Roman vs. Oba Femi would have felt like a real change instead of another chapter in a rivalry fans already know inside out.
“Sorry, but I don’t see what more you want to say between the two of them. Seriously, everything’s already been done! Why replay a Seth/Roman match when you could have done Roman/Oba for change?”
Another fan said they already feel like they know where the match is going, which killed their interest before the build even really started: “I literally don’t care for this match we all know the outcome” And one more reaction kept it short and painful: “Not again!!! 🙄”
That is the problem WWE is dealing with here. Roman and Seth have deep history, the Shield connection still matters, and both men can carry a main event program without breaking a sweat. But for a chunk of fans, the issue is not whether the match will be good. It is that they feel like they have already seen every version of this story.
SummerSlam now has another huge name match on the card, but WWE may have to work harder than usual to convince fans this is more than another trip down the same road. Roman says he needs to beat Seth. Some fans just need WWE to give them something different.
