Daria Rae is staying put in TNA, and the company clearly has plans for her.
Sean Ross Sapp and Fightful Select confirmed that Rae, formerly known as Sonya Deville in WWE, has re-signed with TNA Wrestling. TNA also announced the deal, making it official that Rae will continue in her role as the company’s Director of Operations.
Rae has been a regular part of TNA Thursday Night iMPACT! since her surprise debut on the premiere episode on AMC. She has been used as a key authority figure on the show, and her clashes with TNA Director of Authority Santino Marella have kept her in the mix every week.
TNA made it clear that Rae is not some side character either. The company called her a key part of iMPACT! across AMC and AMC+ in the United States, Sportsnet 360 in Canada, and TNA+ around the world.
Rae spoke with The Sportster earlier this year about why TNA has been such a strong fit for her, and she had nothing but love for the company’s roster and culture.
That says a lot coming from someone who spent years in WWE before landing in TNA under a new name and in a very different role. Rae has not been used as a quick nostalgia pop or a one-off surprise. She has become part of TNA’s weekly setup, and this new deal shows the company wants to keep that going.
TNA also has some big dates coming up. Lockdown is set for Sunday, August 23, at Credit Union 1 Arena in downtown Chicago, where every match will be contested inside a steel cage. The company will also run two major live events at the Liacouras Center at Temple University in Philadelphia on July 30 and July 31.
Daria Rae’s TNA run still feels like it has a lot of room to grow. Whether she stays in power, steps back into the ring, or keeps driving chaos with Santino Marella, TNA clearly sees her as part of the future.
