Jack Perry is not leaving AEW after all, because the company made it official on Dynamite and turned his new deal into part of the show.
The July 8 episode of AEW Dynamite included the announcement that Perry has re-signed with AEW. The company aired a video package looking back at his history with the promotion, including his attack on Tony Khan. The package ended with Perry and Khan shaking hands after Perry signed — or more accurately stabbed — his new contract.
That closed the door on a situation that had been getting a lot of attention. Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer had stated earlier that Perry had not signed a new deal yet and that his contract was coming up fast.
That changed on Dynamite, and AEW clearly wanted to make a statement with the way it was presented. Perry has been with AEW since 2019, starting as Jungle Boy before growing into one of the company’s homegrown names. He became part of Jurassic Express, won tag team gold, turned heel, joined The Elite, and later held the TNT Championship.
Tony Khan had already made it clear ahead of Forbidden Door that AEW wanted Perry locked in for the long haul. When asked about Perry’s contract status, Khan said the plan was always for him to stay.
“The plan for AEW and Jack is for Jack to be here for a long time. I have believed that Jack is a great wrestler for many years and I continue to feel that way. I like Jack very much, personally. He has a very bright future in wrestling and a great mind for wrestling.”
Khan also praised Perry’s return as “Jungle Jack” and said AEW fans had embraced the work he had been doing.
“It’s been really gratifying for me and fans to see the return of Jungle Jack and seeing fans embrace Jack and the great matches he’s been having. The plan is for Jack to be in AEW for a long time, so that’s going to happen.”
Now it has happened. AEW used Dynamite to confirm Perry’s new deal, and the video package made it clear the company still sees him as a major part of its future. Perry’s AEW run has already gone through several different lives. He was once one of the company’s young babyfaces, then became one of the most talked-about names in the company after the CM Punk altercation. Punk was later fired, Perry was suspended, and Perry returned with a much darker edge to his character.
AEW has now locked him down before the contract could become a bigger story. That gives Tony Khan one less problem to deal with and gives Perry a fresh start under a new deal.
