Dakota Kai is finally speaking out about her future after her WWE release, and it doesn’t sound like a WWE return is happening anytime soon.

While speaking to Chris Van Vliet on April 28, 2026, Kai was asked directly if the door is still open for a WWE return. Her response made one thing clear: she’s not closing that door, but she’s also not in a hurry to walk back through it.

“Um, I would never want to burn bridges ever in any capacity. They always treated me well and gave me opportunities, so who knows, really? I would love to just be able to focus on me right now and doing what’s best for me.”

Kai then stated that she’s at a different point in her career now, where every move has to be intentional and not just about signing somewhere for the sake of it.

“I’d never just take any contract right now for the sake of it. I’m at the point of my career where I want to do things with intention, and that doesn’t just mean doing it for the sake of doing it, you know what I mean?”

This follows her earlier comments on Busted Open Radio, where she admitted her WWE departure forced her to step back and rethink her place in wrestling. She also pointed to the challenges she faced during her run, including feeling like she hit a ceiling within the company.

“It was hard. I definitely needed to take that step back from it. I was very grateful for my time in WWE, especially the locker room—I loved that time. I just needed to take a step back and rebuild myself and my confidence as a wrestler in this world. I didn’t know if I still had a place in this world. Being in that company, there’s sort of a glass ceiling. That’s not a unique experience by any means. I would always try to remind myself not to think of myself the way they might, because at the end of the day, it’s just business.”

Now, with time on the independent circuit and a clearer perspective, Kai isn’t rushing into anything, and that includes a WWE comeback. Dakota Kai isn’t ruling WWE out, but she’s also not chasing it and right now, that might be the biggest takeaway from her latest comments.

Do you think Dakota Kai should return to WWE down the line, or is she better off continuing her run outside the company? Let us know your thoughts and feedback.
