D-Von Dudley has done plenty of outrageous things to wrestling fans over the years, but hearing about MJF throwing a drink on a child apparently crossed a completely different line. His immediate reaction was that somebody would have needed to arrest him if that had been his kid.

While speaking on the Duke Loves Rasslin podcast, D-Von was told about the infamous moment from AEW Revolution 2023, when MJF grabbed a drink from a young fan and threw it over him during his Iron Man match against Bryan Danielson.

D-Von apparently hadn’t heard the story before. After Duke claimed the child wasn’t warned beforehand, said the drink contained alcohol and estimated that the fan couldn’t have been older than eight, D-Von didn’t exactly hide how he would have reacted as a parent.

“Oh God. I would have beat the hell out of him. I would have beat the daylights out of him. They would have had to arrest me that night.”

That might sound particularly interesting coming from someone who spent years in ECW, where crossing lines was practically part of the job. D-Von acknowledged that he and plenty of others did outrageous things for shock value, but said there was still a difference between doing something to an adult and involving a child who wasn’t part of the show.

“I know in ECW, you know, we did things for shock TV and things like that. We almost got booted off the pay-per-view because of it. You know, throwing a drink on a kid—draw the line on that one, especially when it’s not part of the show. You know, we’ve done some crazy stuff. I mean, we’ve done some crazy stuff, but we did it to adults. You know, we did it to adults, not the fans, not the kids.”

D-Von wasn’t pretending he’d always treated young fans perfectly either. During his heel days, he once grabbed a child’s sign and ripped it apart, only to immediately regret it when he saw the kid crying.

“I might have done something to where a kid might have had a sign and I ripped it up and then I felt bad about it because the kid was crying. You know, it probably took them months to make that sign and I’m being the jackass that I was and saw the sign because I didn’t like it and ripped it up.”

Messing with kids by teasing them with a high-five was another trick he remembered pulling, but that was about as far as he wanted things to go.

“Or, you know, they’re putting their hands up to, you know, give me a high five and I’m like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, you good,’ and I put my hand back. You know, it was stuff like what we did, but nothing—nothing like that.”

D-Von still seemed surprised that the Revolution incident had happened at all. For someone who came out of ECW, his issue wasn’t wrestlers pushing boundaries—it was knowing where those boundaries should stop.

“The whole kid thing throws me off now. But, you know, some people take it to another level. That’s the thing. But there’s certain levels you shouldn’t touch. I’m just—I’m floored by what you’re telling me. I didn’t know this.”

MJF’s drink toss became one of the most controversial moments from Revolution 2023, and D-Von clearly knows exactly where he would have drawn the line.
