Grayson Waller took a cheap shot at Cruz Montana’s TNA career, and Montana came right back at him. After Waller compared being TNA World Champion to being the best basketball player at a local YMCA, Montana told him to learn who he is before running his mouth.
Waller made the comment during his wild promo on the July 28 episode of NXT. He later attacked Montana and NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo, turning the issue into a full-blown fight.
Speaking on Busted Open, Montana admitted that he understands why Waller is angry. He just does not accept Waller taking shots at a career he knows nothing about. Montana then made it clear that Waller has no clue what he went through to reach WWE.
“I’m always someone who will give props where they’re due. I was in his shoes before. I was pissed off at the world. I had opportunities taken from me. I had a ceiling put on me. I get it.”
“I’ve got to give him props for speaking his mind, but you don’t know me. You don’t know what I’ve been through. You don’t know what I’ve gone through to get here.”
Waller’s biggest shot came when he mocked Montana’s time as TNA World Champion. Montana responded by defending the title and the names who carried it before him. Montana said TNA gave him the platform he needed to grow, and he is not going to let Waller treat that part of his career like a joke.
“That little shot that he took about being TNA World Champion—Bully, you’re a former TNA World Champion. You know the history and the weight that title holds. Name after name after name after name.”
“For me to be among those names, to have had the opportunity to carry the brand that is TNA—TNA means a lot to me. TNA was the first place that gave me an opportunity to grow on a main platform. I’ll do anything for that place.”
Montana then turned the heat back on Waller and questioned what he has actually done. He pointed to his 20 years in wrestling, his time around the world and the risks he took to rebuild his career.
“I’ve never met this dude a day in my life. I’ve barely even heard the name, let’s keep it a buck. What have you done?”
“I’ve traveled around the world. I’ve been to the top of the mountain. I’ve been at the bottom of the mountain. I took a chance on myself. I let go of a really, really nice paycheck. I went back to the indies. I went back to TNA. I rebuilt my career.”
Montana finished with a direct warning. His first match after knee surgery took place in front of 80,000 fans at Wembley Stadium, and he still walked away to bet on himself again.
“The first match that I had back after knee surgery was in front of 80,000 in Wembley Stadium. And guess what? I let that go. Come at me different.”
Waller wanted attention, and now he has it. Montana is not interested in arguing about TNA anymore—he wants Waller to back up every word after attacking him on NXT.
