Cody Rhodes and Roman Reigns didn’t need a microphone to make things feel personal after WWE Clash in Italy, as they had a tense backstage staredown.
After WWE Clash in Italy went off the air, WWE took to Twitter and uploaded a video showing Rhodes and Reigns crossing paths backstage. Reigns walked out of his locker room and came face-to-face with Cody, leading to a tense staredown between two of WWE’s biggest names.
Neither man said a word in the clip, but the look between them said plenty. Cody and Roman stared daggers at each other before Rhodes eventually made a twisted expression and walked away, though he still looked conflicted as he left the scene.
The moment came after Rhodes responded to a Bloodline-related shot that was heard as Clash in Italy went off the air. Someone could be heard saying, “f*ck a QB1, it’s all about the Tribal Chief,” which was clearly aimed at Cody. Rhodes later addressed the comment during the post-show panel and made it clear he has no problem facing Roman again.
“I think it’s a unique position to be in to say something negative or for him to say something negative about me, and it’s for the simple fact that I don’t have two wins over him and he doesn’t have two wins over me. He beat me once and I beat his ass once. So, I don’t know, add him to the list along with GUNTHER. I’m easy to find but hard to beat that goes for Roman Reigns as well.”
The backstage clip only added more fuel to that fire. Cody had just dealt with GUNTHER earlier in the night, while Reigns closed the show by defeating Jacob Fatu in Tribal Combat to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Still, the brief hallway moment made it clear their history is far from finished.
WWE now has both men positioned at the top of the company again, and their latest staredown felt like a reminder that another Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns clash could happen at any time. Cody walked away this time, but he didn’t look done with Roman by any stretch. If anything, WWE’s own footage made the tension feel even harder to ignore.
