CM Punk Says Pro Wrestlers Are Better Trash Talkers Than Soccer Players

CM Punk isn’t giving soccer the win when it comes to trash talk, because as far as he’s concerned, pro wrestling owns that lane.

During an appearance on The Late Run, Punk was asked who talks better trash between WWE stars and soccer players. Punk didn’t dodge the question, and he made it clear that he was riding with the business that made him famous.

“I got to take up for my business.”

Punk then ran down some of the greatest talkers in wrestling history, making it clear that WWE and pro wrestling have been built on people who could work a microphone just as well as they could work a match.

“You know, especially historically, you know, we got Roddy Piper, we got Ric Flair. We got CM Punk. Dusty Rhodes. Like the people with the gift of gab, you know, Superstar Billy Graham, Gorgeous George.”

Punk didn’t stop there, either. He took it all the way to Muhammad Ali and pointed out how much of Ali’s style came from pro wrestling, especially Gorgeous George.

“That’s where Muhammad Ali got all his stuff from, you know? If you look at that like how culturally important Muhammad Ali was to this country and the sport of boxing. Like he lifted a lot of his stuff from pro wrestling and Gorgeous George. So, yeah, I mean I’m going to take pro wrestling over that.”

The hosts agreed that soccer players can talk trash on the field, but it’s not the same thing. In soccer, players usually cover their mouths so cameras can’t catch what they’re saying. In wrestling, the entire point is to grab a microphone, sell the fight, and make people care enough to buy in.

That’s where Punk’s argument hits hard. Soccer has plenty of attitude, but pro wrestling made trash talk part of the show. From Roddy Piper and Ric Flair to Dusty Rhodes and Punk himself, the best talkers didn’t just insult people — they sold tickets, made moments, and turned words into money.
