Grayson Waller came back to NXT ready to burn the place down. He trashed the roster, took shots at several WWE stars and kept talking until production cut his microphone and sent the show to commercial.
CM Punk saw the whole thing and reacted through his Instagram Stories. Punk shared a clip of the promo and praised Waller for turning his anger into a direct shot at the competition.
“Frustration distilled and funneled into a bullet aimed at the competition.”
Waller opened the July 28 episode by walking fans through his WWE career. He called Austin Theory “240 pounds of idiot” and claimed he carried him during their time together. He also trashed his run with The New Day, saying WWE had him walking around for a year dressed like he was attending a funeral.
Waller made it clear that he was not back in NXT to sit in catering and collect a paycheck. He said he was in the best shape of his life and wanted the NXT Championship. Cruz Montana was next on his list. Waller mocked his new name and took a shot at his time in TNA. Waller then called out NXT Champion Tony D’Angelo and brought his family into the fight.
“Who’s going to stop me? Cruz Montana? I love the new name, by the way. It’s great. It’s not 2005 anymore. Being at the top of TNA doesn’t mean anything.”
“I’m going to send Tony home to that ugly newborn baby of yours.”
Someone backstage told Waller to wrap it up, but he refused. He told Shawn Michaels to send out “one of his guys” and then ripped into the NXT men’s roster. Waller said the men were soft and claimed the women were running circles around them. He also said too many wrestlers believed they deserved to be called up before proving they could handle a microphone. When the crowd started chanting, Waller shut them down.
“Shut up. I don’t need your support. I’m cooking right now. Let me cook.”
Production finally cut Waller’s microphone, but that did not stop him. He grabbed a camera and continued talking directly to viewers before NXT dumped the feed and went to commercial. Punk knows what it looks like when a wrestler uses real anger to grab everyone’s attention. His reaction made it clear that Waller’s message hit hard.
Waller returned to NXT looking for a fight, and now he has CM Punk watching. The big question is whether Tony D’Angelo or Shawn Michaels will be the first person to shut him up.
