CM Punk Not Expected To Have Power To Ruin Jack Perry If WWE Door Ever Opens

Jack Perry’s AEW future is suddenly a lot more interesting, and of course, CM Punk’s name found its way back into the conversation.

Perry and Punk will probably always be linked because of what went down in AEW. Their tension blew up at AEW All In 2023 after Perry made his infamous “real glass” comment during his match, saying, “cry me a river,” after prior issues over a planned glass spot. That mess led to a backstage confrontation with Punk, and AEW later fired Punk after the incident.

Now Perry’s contract situation is back on the table, and that naturally brings up the question fans were already asking: what would happen if Jack Perry ever ended up in WWE with CM Punk already there?

During Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez brought up Perry’s AEW contract status and said Perry had not signed a new deal as of the day before.

“All right. Jack Perry is renegotia. He’s negotiating a deal. His deal is up. I was told at any moment, and he had not yet signed as of yesterday. So I presume he will resign, but I suppose anything is possible.”

That opened the door for Dave Meltzer to talk about whether Perry would even fit in WWE. Meltzer made it clear he does not see WWE as the best landing spot for Perry, comparing him to wrestlers like Darby Allin, who are not exactly built like the company’s usual top-guy mold.

“Anything’s possible. I don’t know that he would do well in WWE. Like, like, he would be one of the guys that I would say, you know, like, like, like a Darby Allen, where it was kind of. I would kind of say probably not the best idea. You know, like Danhausen was a good idea, but. But not that ness.”

Then Meltzer got to the part everyone was waiting for. He said his WWE concern for Perry had nothing to do with Punk, and he does not believe Punk would have the power to wreck Perry’s chances there.

“You know, it’s just. I just don’t see them pushing them, you know, so. And it’s got nothing to do with Punk.”

Meltzer then doubled down, saying Punk would not be the problem if Perry ever walked through WWE’s doors. The bigger issue, according to him, is WWE’s style and how the company uses smaller, high-flying wrestlers.

“I mean, like, whatever that would be, you know, I mean, I don’t think Punk would have the power to, like, you know, ruin him or anything like that, but, you know, he’s just not their style at all. You know, the, the, the weight and this, the, you know, the.”

Meltzer pointed to Johnny Gargano, Nathan Frazier, and Axiom as examples of wrestlers who can absolutely go in the ring, but do not always get a steady spotlight on WWE television.

“All the flying in the high spots and everything like that. You know, they don’t, you know, look at. Look at Johnny Gargano, look at Nathan Frazier. You know, these guys are great, great wrestlers, and, you know, they don’t even get a lot of shots to wrestle these days.”

He then said WWE has tremendous wrestlers on the roster already, but that does not mean the company does much with them.

“I mean, Johnny Gargano’s been comatose for a while. You know, Nathan Frazier every now and then shows up, has an incredible match. You know, Axiom, who’s. Who’s tremendous. You know, sometimes he shows up, has an incredible match, but they don’t really do anything with those type of people.”

That is the key point here. Meltzer was not saying CM Punk would be waiting at the door to block Jack Perry. He was saying Perry’s bigger problem in WWE would be the system itself. Punk may always be part of Perry’s AEW story because of the real glass drama and everything that followed, but according to Meltzer, Punk would not have the power to sink Perry if WWE ever became part of the conversation.

For now, Alvarez said Perry had not signed a new AEW deal yet, though he assumed Perry would re-sign. Still, “anything is possible” is enough to keep this one alive, especially when Punk’s name is still attached to one of the messiest exits in AEW history.

Do you think Jack Perry would ever work in WWE with CM Punk already there, or is AEW still the best place for him? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comments section below.
