For years, Brock Lesnar has walked away from wrestling only to come back when the timing felt right. This time, he says it’s different. Just days after his Hell in a Cell loss to Oba Femi at SummerSlam fueled speculation that his career was over, Lesnar has now removed any doubt by officially announcing his retirement from professional wrestling.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show, the former WWE Champion confirmed that Saturday’s match was the last time fans will see him compete inside a wrestling ring.
“I’m here today to let the world know that I am retired, and I wanted to say a big thank you to everybody. Saturday was a very emotional day for me. Kind of weird because… my heart… when Oba Femi slammed me at WrestleMania, I was like, ‘I can’t do this again. I think I’m done.'”
Lesnar admitted that, despite feeling that way after WrestleMania, he wasn’t quite ready to walk away. He still believed there was one more chapter left to write. That chapter ended at SummerSlam.
“The business… and I still had some fuel in the tank. But Saturday, that’s it for me in the squared circle and for everything else too.”
Lesnar closed his message by thanking the fans who followed his remarkable journey from NCAA champion to WWE megastar, UFC Heavyweight Champion and one of the most dominant attractions the wrestling business has ever seen.
“I just wanna give a shout-out to everyone in this universe that has followed me since I was a little kid all the way to Saturday.”
The announcement comes after WWE had already begun treating Lesnar’s SummerSlam defeat like the end of an era. Following his loss to Oba Femi, the company quietly moved Lesnar back to the alumni section of its official website and aired another career retrospective package on RAW, much like it did after WrestleMania 42.
This time, though, the message isn’t coming from WWE. It’s coming from Brock Lesnar himself. After decades of championships, unforgettable rivalries and a career that crossed both professional wrestling and mixed martial arts, Lesnar says the ride is finally over.
