CM Punk and Cody Rhodes were supposed to be trying to tear each other apart. Instead, they both ended up kissing Danhausen at a WWE live event.
Just one night after Danhausen stopped Punk and Rhodes from brawling at WWE’s live event in Stockton, he found himself playing peacemaker again in Bakersfield on Sunday. This time, though, his attempt to calm things down went completely off the rails.
Punk and Rhodes once again got into each other’s faces after their match, with the tension looking ready to boil over for the second straight night. Seeing where things were headed, Danhausen hurried to the ring with a microphone, apparently hoping he could talk some sense into both men before punches started flying.
He never got the chance. Before Danhausen could say a single word, Punk grabbed his face and planted a kiss right on his lips. The crowd exploded, but Cody Rhodes wasn’t about to let Punk steal the moment. As soon as Punk backed away, Rhodes cut him off, grabbed Danhausen himself and kissed him too, bringing the arena to an even louder reaction.
With Danhausen caught in the middle of one of the strangest segments of WWE’s live event tour, Punk looked around the arena and summed it all up with one line: “I’m never gonna forget Bakersfield.”
The kiss-fest came less than 24 hours after the trio created another memorable moment in Stockton. On that occasion, Punk and Rhodes looked ready to fight after their match before Danhausen sprinted to the ring wearing nothing but a towel to break them up. Somehow, the rematch turned out even weirder.
Underneath all the comedy, the feud is still very real. Punk and Rhodes remain on course to face each other for the Undisputed WWE Championship at SummerSlam, but before they get there, they gave fans a live event moment that nobody in Bakersfield is likely to forget anytime soon.
