Chad Gable is 13 years into his WWE career, but he says one conversation with The Undertaker completely changed the way he approaches wrestling.
Fresh off the critically acclaimed mask-versus-mask storyline in Mexico, Gable revealed that it wasn’t just another memorable match—it became the moment everything finally clicked. And according to Gable, he has The Undertaker to thank for it. Speaking to KFAN, Gable admitted he’d spent years overthinking every detail of his matches until Undertaker gave him one piece of advice that changed everything. Rather than filling Gable’s head with complicated wrestling psychology, The Deadman kept it simple.
“You know, it’s wild because I’d say the biggest revelation I had was like last month after I did this mask versus mask match in Mexico… And Undertaker I think is responsible for a lot of that because he was helping out down in Mexico. He’s the one that finally got through to me. Like the idea of just stop thinking so much and just treat it as if everything you’re doing is real. Like as if you’re going out for an amateur wrestling match. Take that mentality into the fight.”
Gable says that’s when everything suddenly fell into place. Instead of trying to map out every movement in his head, he simply reacted naturally and stayed in the moment—the same way he did throughout his amateur wrestling career. The result was one of the biggest breakthroughs he’s ever experienced inside a wrestling ring.
“When it worked and it clicked, I was like, ‘This is so great. It makes it so easy. You don’t have to think about a thing. You just go out and do your thing and live in the moment. That was just like a month ago I came to that realization. So, it’s crazy.”
The revelation comes just weeks after Gable said his mask-versus-mask match proved he belongs in WWE’s main event picture. While he previously argued the bout showed he’s capable of becoming WWE Champion, he now believes Undertaker’s guidance may have unlocked another level of his game at exactly the right time.
