Former WWE star Carmella isn’t saying she’ll never wrestle again. She’s just not convinced now is the right time.
After recently clearing up confusion over her “retirement” comments, the former WWE Women’s Champion has offered her clearest update yet on where she stands regarding a possible return to WWE. While the desire to perform is still there, so is the reality of raising two young children.
Speaking with Laura Clery on IDIOT, Carmella admitted she’s once again feeling the itch to do something creative. It’s the same feeling she had after the birth of her first child, when she originally hoped to return to WWE before those plans ultimately fell through.
“Yeah. I feel like I’m kind of in that in-between right now because I, like, that’s why I had originally wanted to go back to WWE after having my first, ’cause I’m like, I need something. I’m, like, craving that. Like, something. Yeah. And it just didn’t work out.”
Now nearly a year after giving birth to her second son, Carmella said she’s found herself asking those same questions again. Launching Hot Mom Shit gave her a creative outlet, but she admitted it still doesn’t replace the feeling she got from performing in front of a live crowd.
“And then again, so now I’m, my second, he’s 11 months, so I’m, like, 11 months postpartum. And I’m really in this, like, what… that’s why I started my podcast, Hot Mom S***. I’m like, I need something. I need an outlet. I need… And I, but I still don’t feel like a hundred percent fulfilled in that because it’s still not that performance sort of thing.”
Carmella said the situation has left her feeling pulled in two completely different directions. She loves being home with her children, but at the same time, she’s trying to figure out what the next chapter of her professional life is supposed to look like.
“But I’m like, I’m almost 40. What the hell am I supposed to do with, like, my career? I love being home with my kids, but I’m like, I wish I had something else because then I would feel maybe like a better mom. But then I can’t imagine being away from my kids. I need to be home with that. I just am, like, all over the place when it comes to that right now.”
That’s where WWE enters the conversation. Carmella made it clear she hasn’t closed the door on another run, but she also doesn’t want to look back and regret spending too much time on the road while her children are still so young.
“I feel that’s, I’m just not sure what, what the next step is for me. But I’m also like, I know that I would regret being on the road and traveling while they’re this young. Um, so that’s not to say I would never go back to WWE, but I just don’t know if it would be, like, anytime in the near future or in, like, a full-time capacity, ’cause I just can’t imagine being away from my kids that long.”
Those comments paint a much clearer picture than her recent retirement remarks. Carmella isn’t walking away from wrestling forever—she’s simply weighing whether now is the right time to return. For the moment, family is winning that battle, even if the performer in her hasn’t gone anywhere.
If Carmella does wrestle again, would you rather see her return for one final full-time run or make occasional special appearances? Let us know in the comments.
