Becky Lynch didn’t just create a nickname when she started calling herself “The Man”—she built a mindset that helped redefine her place at the top of WWE.

During a conversation with Going Ringside, Lynch broke down exactly what the phrase means to her and why it goes deeper than just a catchy slogan. The discussion came up when the host pointed out how her character challenged the long-standing idea that wrestling has traditionally been viewed as a “man’s world.” That opened the door for Lynch to explain how the name wasn’t about gender at all, but about confidence, leadership, and believing in yourself when others might not.

“So what it is is it's more of a state of mind, right? It's it's it's having a belief in yourself more than other people's more than other people believe in you. It's standing up and saying I'm the top dog here regardless of gender. And and when you look at at our industry, it's predominantly been being been the guys that have been on the top on the top deck and they've always been referred to as the man. Well, I'm the top dog now, so I'm the man.”

Her explanation helped cement what fans have seen play out over the years—Lynch didn’t just adopt the persona, she lived it. By positioning herself as the top star regardless of gender, she carved out one of the most recognizable identities in modern WWE history. The phrase “The Man” became tied directly to her rise to the top, championship success, and main-event moments that helped elevate women’s wrestling to new heights.
