Becky Lynch just made WWE history at Clash in Italy, but not the kind she’ll be bragging about.
During the fourth match of the night in Turin, Sol Ruca defeated Lynch to become the new WWE Women’s Intercontinental Champion. The finish came after Lynch went for the Manhandle Slam near the corner, but Ruca countered and hit the Sol Snatcher for the win. That gave Ruca her first WWE main roster singles championship just weeks after moving up to RAW.
For Lynch, the loss came with an ugly record. She already held the record for the longest WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship reign at 163 days, but now she also holds the record for the shortest reign in the title’s history.
Lynch’s latest run ended at just 43 days. She had won the title from AJ Lee at WrestleMania 42, but her third reign came crashing down at Clash in Italy. The previous shortest reign belonged to AJ Lee and Maxxine Dupri, who both held the title for 49 days. Lynch’s second reign lasted 54 days, while inaugural champion Lyra Valkyria held the championship for 145 days.
Ruca’s win is a massive moment for her main roster run, but it also leaves Lynch with a rough footnote in the record books. She went from being the longest-reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion to also having the shortest reign ever with the same title. That’s a brutal swing for Becky, and a huge statement win for Sol Ruca.
