Becky Lynch expected the worst when she first learned she’d be working alongside MJF, but her opinion changed fast once they actually met.

During her conversation with Vulture while discussing her acting work on Happy Gilmore 2, Lynch was asked about working with MJF, who is also part of the film. The question compared wrestlers interacting outside their usual environment to comedians meeting one another socially, which led Lynch to share her honest first impression of the AEW star. She explained that MJF’s on-screen persona had convinced her that he would be difficult to deal with in real life, but that assumption didn’t last long once they actually started interacting.

“That was exactly what it was like. I think he's so great. I love him. And honestly, I'll be honest, I thought he'd be an a**hole—like his character. He's so good at his character that I was like, ‘Oh, I'm gonna hate this guy.’ And he's just the sweetest boy. He's so nice and he was so great and he was such a great conversation. It was such a great chat and we bonded instantly and I love him.”

Lynch didn’t stop there. She continued praising MJF and admitted that his ability to stay in character had completely fooled her before they met. Once she saw how he acted behind the scenes, her perception shifted, and she began speaking highly of both his personality and his performance in the movie.

“You know, I totally bought the act—and now I'm killing the act. So, sorry. But no, I think he's great and he's wonderful and he was so great in the movie. He's fantastic. He's just a fantastic little speaker and actor and he's also so young still. So I'm so very excited to see where his career goes.”

Lynch’s comments offer an interesting look at how effective MJF’s character work has been over the years. His ability to stay committed to his persona clearly left an impression strong enough that even fellow wrestlers expected him to behave the same way in real life.

Now that both stars have shared time on set, it seems that initial assumption couldn’t have been further from reality. Instead of friction, Lynch described the experience as one that quickly turned into a positive connection.

With wrestlers continuing to branch into acting roles and major film projects, moments like this show how personalities built inside the ring can shape expectations far beyond wrestling itself.
