Baron Corbin is back in WWE, but he’s already thinking about how much longer he wants to keep doing this. Corbin says the multi-year deal he signed after returning could very well be the final contract of his wrestling career.
Speaking to The Sportster, Corbin opened up about his current WWE deal and made it clear he still has unfinished business. The biggest thing missing from his résumé is a World Championship, and he wants to chase that before his time in the ring runs out.
“Signing a good multi-year deal. Coming back, I’m gonna really accomplish something. I have a lot of unfinished goals. I was never a World Champion. I need to have that on my list of accomplishments.”
Corbin then got even more direct about his future. He doesn’t want to stick around long enough for fans to watch him slow down or lose the physical edge that has defined his career.
“My thought process is this is probably the last one I sign. Realistically, how much time do I have left to do this before I’m a step slower, or I’m not able to bring my A game and the physicality I want? I never want to be a guy that hangs on too long. I want to be at 110% when I walk through those curtains.”
Corbin never became WWE Champion during his first run, although he came close enough to taste it. He infamously became the third wrestler in WWE history to fail a Money in the Bank cash-in when John Cena helped cost him the opportunity in 2017. He also challenged for the title in the six-pack challenge at Fastlane 2018.
After leaving WWE, Corbin wrestled under his real name, Tom Pestock, and worked across the independent scene, including MLW, where he became a World Tag Team Champion. His return to WWE on July 10 quickly put him back in the title picture, and he captured the United States Championship less than a month later at SummerSlam.
Corbin lost that title to Trick Williams at Sunday Night’s Main Event, but he clearly isn’t treating that loss like the beginning of the end. If this really is his final WWE contract, Corbin wants to squeeze everything he can out of it — and that World Championship goal is still sitting right at the top of the list.
