Andrade just gave fans a pretty good reason to start asking questions about Carmelo Hayes. With Melo nowhere to be seen on WWE television for the past few weeks, his former rival suddenly decided to check on him publicly.
On September 4, Andrade El Idolo took to Twitter and tagged Carmelo Hayes with one simple question: Where is he? Andrade didn’t explain what prompted the message, which is what makes it interesting.
“Where are you Amigo ? @Carmelo_WWE”
Hayes hasn’t appeared on WWE television since losing to Baron Corbin on the August 14 episode of SmackDown. There hasn’t been any indication that he’s leaving WWE or that his absence has anything to do with his standing in the company.
In fact, the last backstage word on Hayes was pretty positive. Sean Ross Sapp addressed Hayes’ status during a Fightful Select Q&A on August 17 and said he had never heard anything negative about how WWE views him. Hayes has instead consistently been described as someone the company can rely on.
“I’ve never heard anything about him being viewed negatively backstage. He’s always been referred to as dependable, professional, and with a lot of upside.”
Andrade publicly asking where an absent WWE wrestler has been was always going to get fans talking. There’s no evidence that Andrade is recruiting Hayes or that Melo is considering leaving WWE, but that hasn’t stopped some fans from already imagining what the two could do together elsewhere.
They also have history. Andrade and Hayes spent plenty of time beating each other up on SmackDown in 2024, producing a series of matches that became a regular part of the show. If they ever did find themselves in the same company again, there’s already a rivalry waiting to be picked right back up.
For now, Andrade could simply be stirring the pot. Until Hayes answers him, though, “Where are you, amigo?” is a pretty funny question coming from an AEW star to a WWE wrestler who suddenly disappeared from television.
