Carmelo Hayes finally got his United States Championship match in his hometown of Boston. One loss to Baron Corbin later, and fans were right back to asking what Triple H is doing with him.
Hayes challenged Corbin during the August 14 edition of SmackDown, but the hometown opportunity didn’t end with Melo holding championship gold. Corbin pinned him clean after hitting the End of Days. That was enough to set off another round of backlash over Hayes’ WWE booking. One fan took to Twitter and went straight after Triple H.
“When is triple K gonna stop f****** over Carmelo Hayes?”
Another had already decided where Hayes was heading after the loss: “WELP BACK TO CATERING FOR MELO. TRIPLE H HAS ZERO CLUE.” A different fan was tired of watching the same thing happen.

One of the strongest reactions came from a fan who essentially declared Carmelo Hayes’ push dead, arguing that WWE simply doesn’t see him as a future singles champion.
“Yeah, man, Carmelo Hayes FC, it’s over, bruh. We’re never going to see Melo get an opportunity or a chance to be a star or singles champion again. WWE/Triple H doesn’t value Melo, and this is no shade to Baron Corbin, but Melo should be United States Champion right now.”
Those reactions hit a little harder considering fans were having almost the exact same conversation about Hayes just weeks ago. When Corbin returned to WWE in July, he attacked both Trick Williams and Hayes. That immediately made Melo part of the story, and plenty of fans expected the three-way issue to carry into SummerSlam, but it didn’t.
WWE booked Trick against Corbin while Hayes was left off the show completely. That meant Melo missed SummerSlam after already missing WrestleMania, and fans flooded Triple H’s social media asking why.
Bottom line: fans spent July wondering why WWE kept leaving Carmelo Hayes on the sidelines. He finally got his shot in August, and one clean pinfall later, they’re questioning his future all over again.
