Alba Fyre is clearing up what really happened with her WWE departure, as she revealed she wasn’t actually released at all.

While speaking to Daily Star, the former WWE Superstar explained that she did not part ways with the company in the same way as some other WWE talent. Instead, her contract simply reached its expiration date, which allowed her to return to the ring right away.

“Like, for me, it happens. There seems to be a pattern with this. My contract was up, and I knew it was coming up, and I had the decision of whether I wanted to stay or not.”

Fyre said the situation worked differently from wrestlers who are fired and then have to wait through a 90-day non-compete clause. Since her deal ended naturally, she was free to make her surprise return for Pro Wrestling EVE in London on June 5.

“I know some other people got fired and they have the 90-day clause, but because mine was just a contract ending, it means I didn’t have the 90 days, and I was able to come and do this and do it as kind of a surprise.”

Kay Lee Ray also admitted the surprise may not have been perfectly hidden, but she was still happy with how everything played out: “But I know it wasn’t really a surprise. But yeah, I’m really glad it worked out this way.”

The clarification comes after many fans believed she was part of WWE’s post-WrestleMania talent cuts on April 24, which saw the likes of Zoey Stark, Zelina Vega and others get released. Fyre had been featured on SmackDown as part of Chelsea Green’s Secret Hervice alongside Piper Niven before quietly exiting the company. Prior to that, she enjoyed a successful WWE run that included becoming one of the longest-reigning NXT UK Women’s Champions in history and later capturing the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship with Isla Dawn.

The comments put an end to speculation that Fyre was one of WWE’s traditional releases. Instead, her contract simply ran its course, giving her the freedom to return to wrestling immediately and reintroduce the Kay Lee Ray character to fans. Considering how quickly she was back in the ring and the reaction she received at EVE, it’s clear the next chapter of her career is already underway.
