Shelton Benjamin is a true veteran in the world of professional wrestling, and fans largely felt he was never utilized to the best of his abilities there. Benjamin was released last year, and it appears he is in talks with AEW regarding a potential debut.
The Gold Standard of WWE disclosed that he was released during the September 2023 cuts, surprising fans given his long tenure with the company. Speculation arose about Benjamin’s next moves in the industry.
Sean Ross Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall has reported that Shelton Benjamin has garnered interest from AEW. Conversations have taken place between Benjamin and AEW regarding the possibility of him making appearances for the company. While details about a potential contract or full-time deal remain unconfirmed, discussions between the two parties began about a month ago.
”Shelton Benjamin is a free agent, and has some suitors. Fightful Select has learned that while Shelton Benjamin and All Elite Wrestling didn’t have contact initially upon his free agency, the two sides have recently had conversations and discussed the possibility of him appearing for the company. We haven’t learned whether or not he’d be signing a contract or on a full-time deal, or if anything has been finalized, but the two sides have been in contact and have discussed possible appearances as far back as a month ago.”
”There were actually people in AEW pushing for Shelton last year when there were rumors that Benjamin’s contract was coming up in WWE. As it turns out, that wasn’t the case, but Shelton ended up being released by the company in the fall of 2023 anyway. Benjamin had been with WWE since before AEW started, so he’d never had the opportunity to work in AEW. However, he does have an extensive history in ROH.”
Shelton Benjamin’s first match following his WWE release was also revealed. Shelton Benjamin is still keeping his options open while he remains free agent. We will have to wait and see whether he will make his way to AEW in the end.
