Fightful Select hast learned that upon CM Punk’s return to WWE this past Saturday, there were several in the company pushing for the possibility of CM Punk to take on Stone Cold Steve Austin. So much so, that we’re told that Punk had even had discussions about the possibility.

As of now, we’re told many in WWE are hopeful and even optimistic that the match could finally be put together. One source in the company had indicated that many ideas have already been floated between CM Punk and WWE. We have not heard how far along in talks, planning or pitches that this is, but that if all went well, the ideal scenario would see Punk flying to Austin to go over ideas. One source indicated that while that is the “ideal scenario,” there’s a lot to get through first. Those close to Austin say that they’ve never heard him mention any personal issues that the two would need to get over, and actually indicated that they drop messages to each other a couple of times a year or so.

For nearly two decades, Stone Cold Steve Austin had shown no interest in returning to the wrestling ring. It wasn’t until 2022 that he made a surprise appearance in the WrestleMania main event, facing Kevin Owens, and this raised the possibility of a potential comeback. Sources have revealed that Austin was approached about several WrestleMania matchups for WrestleMania 39, although none of them materialized. We will have to see if he comes back for a match against CM Punk next.

To prepare for Stone Cold’s WrestleMania 38 bout, both Vince McMahon and Drew Gulak made a journey to Austin’s residence to ensure his readiness for the match. It is said that Gulak and Austin even conducted a full-scale match during this visit.

WWE is bulking up CM Punk merchandise once again, and it appears that dream match could be on the way. Only time will tell how this pans out, but this report may change betting odds for CM Punk’s WrestleMania opponent.
