AEW has the rights to many pieces of media, including songs and other clips. They also obtained the rights for the Captain Insano character, made famous in Adam Sandler’s Waterboy movie decades ago, and they’re making good use of it.

Sean Sapp noted behind Fightful’s paywall that the company had other ideas for Paul Wight’s Captain Insano character at All In London. In the end, fans got the show that Tony Khan went with.

“We’d mentioned that there were pitches or ideas for Paul Wight/Captain Insano, Matt Hardy and Grado (or Jeff Hardy if he could get into the UK) against Jeff Jarrett, Satnam Singh and Jay Lethal. Not only was Jeff Jarrett heavily pitching to get on the AEW All In show, we’re told he pitched the Grado elements that were also gaining steam online due to Tom Campbell. Jarrett himself has stated he also pitched for Dennis Rodman’s involvement.”

AEW did see Captain Insano return on AEW Dynamite, in a hilarious segment with MJF and Adam Cole. Sadly, Cole was in a cast that entire time, because he was injured a week prior to that at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam.
