WWE’s SummerSlam setup got an unauthorized test run in the middle of the night after a group of fans apparently snuck into U.S. Bank Stadium and made it all the way to the ring.
Footage that surfaced online shows the group walking through restricted areas of the Minneapolis venue at around 2:36 a.m. They moved through the stadium while WWE crews were still preparing the building for SummerSlam.
One clip shows the group near a security room filled with surveillance monitors. Another shows them reaching the stadium floor, where the SummerSlam ring and production setup were already in place.
The biggest moment came when one of the fans climbed into the ring. The video shows him standing inside the SummerSlam ring while the rest of the stadium remained mostly dark and empty.
It is not clear how the group got inside, how long they stayed there or whether security eventually caught them. What is clear is that they managed to reach areas that should have been locked down before one of WWE’s biggest events of the year.
SummerSlam is scheduled for August 1 and August 2 at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. WWE was still putting the finishing touches on the setup when the group decided to turn the venue into its own private playground.
The footage creates a serious security question for both WWE and U.S. Bank Stadium. Sneaking into the building is one thing, but getting all the way onto the floor and inside the ring shows just how far the group was able to go without being stopped.
