Ric Flair was one of the biggest stars in the ’70s and ’80s. However, when he came over to the WWF for his first run, he wasn’t as big a star as he was in the NWA. Despite this, Ric Flair won the 1992 Royal Rumble match, thereby becoming the WWF World Heavyweight Champion in the process.

Ric Flair recently revealed on an episode of his To Be The Man podcast that he didn’t know he was winning the Royal Rumble match. He also revealed that Jake Roberts informed him that he was winning while they were working out in the gym on the day of the event.

“Believe it or not Jake Roberts told me that day in the gym and I didn’t believe Jake. He said, “Congratulations! I heard you’re winning today” I said, “what are you talking about?” I was…it was the last thing I was thinking about. I was just so glad to be away and be with friends that were real,” Ric Flair said.

Flair’s first run in WWF only lasted a couple of years. It was his second run that lasted a longer period and made him an even bigger star. Looking back, we can only wonder what would’ve happened had Flair stayed with the WWF for a bit longer in his first run. Stay tuned to Ringside News for similar stories.
