Dragon Lee is undoubtedly one of the most established and respected pro wrestlers on the planet. The pro wrestling veteran has wrestled against the best of the best in the business, especially in ROH, NJPW, AAA, and AEW. He officially signed with WWE last year, and this came as a huge shock for many. That seems to be the case for AAA as well, as many officials believed that Dragon Lee going to WWE was a joke.

Fans were acquainted with Dragon Lee in AEW when he was part of Los Ingobernables few months ago. As previously reported, Dragon Lee has officially signed with WWE.

Dragon Lee himself made the announcement after he and Dralsitico beat FTR to win the AAA Tag Team titles at the AAA Noche de Campeones event in Acapulco. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, AAA officials believed that Dragon Lee making his way to WWE was a joke and not real at all.

Konnan said on his podcast that the reason Tay Melo was pulled from last week’s show was because her tag match was moved back because a wrestler had COVID. We had been told that Willow Nightingale had an illness, unspecified, so they moved the match back and the scheduled date was the day of the Acapulco show. The announcers were prepped by Konnan, but they were not told that Mascara Ano 2000 Jr., was going to interfere in the Dinamitas match and at first weren’t clear who he was.

The announcers, as well as a lot of fans and media, believed the Dragon Lee going to WWE story was a joke since their version of April Fool’s day was the day of the show. That’s why they no sold his interview talking about going to WWE after winning the tag titles

WWE is also hoping that Dragon Lee will be on the main roster by WrestleMania next year. He is also the highest-paid NXT superstar following Mandy Rose’s exit. We’ll have to see how Dragon Lee will fare in WWE once he debuts this year.
