Jake Roberts Admits To Using Steroids During His Career

The use of steroids to attain incredible physiques became a rage in the 1980s and 1990s. One legend who saw everything come to fruition was WWE Legend Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts. Jake recently spoke about the use of steroids by wrestlers and whether he had taken them himself.

The Snake is remembered for his amazing matches with beefed-up stars such as Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior. He recently discussed the use of steroids and was asked if he was tempted to use them, to match the physical stature of his contemporaries like Hulk Hogan. Roberts spoke about this on the latest episode of “The Snake Pit” with his co-host Marcus DeAngelo, where he was quite candid about the subject.

“Of course it did, and I did. I went on it for a short period, especially after my neck surgery cause I wanted to heal quicker, but in the WWF at the time we were working so hard, seven days a week, twice on Saturday, twice on Sunday. You needed a little bit of steroids to help with the healing process. Now some guys took that and went completely off the charts with it, but that was their choice and you know, so many of those guys are gone now and I’m sure that had something to do with it, whether that was Randy [Savage] or The Road Warriors or Mr. Perfect, right on down the line, man.”

Jake Roberts started his career in the business in 1974, first as a referee and then as an in-ring competitor. He became known for his captivating persona, intense promos, charismatic approach, and in-ring acumen. Roberts famously carried snakes with him and was even regarded for his innovative way of using the DDT.

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2014. He is currently working with Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling, making appearances for the company since 2019. He appears as the manager of the upcoming star Lance Archer.
