During AEW Dynamite Grand Slam this week, a few matches had notable botches from the referee. This included not noticing interference and other things that referees should see. However, it turns out those weren’t exactly unintentional botches either.

While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked about the aforementioned botches by Paul Turner. He revealed that the botches were planned.

This was actually done on purpose. Like, sometimes you’ll go, ‘oh my god these agents need to talk to each other so they don’t do the same finish 3 matches in a row.’ I was thinking the same thing, but on Rampage in the Eddie Kingston and Sammy Guevara match it actually ends up showing that this was done on purpose to build toward what they’re doing on an angle on Rampage going forward with Paul Turner.”

We will have to wait and see how AEW books this particular angle with Paul Turner. Fans are certainly excited to see what AEW will have planned for them next.
