Jonathan Gresham became one of the best things about ROH over the past two years. He eventually became the ROH World Champion right before the company went on hiatus. More details regarding his status have now been revealed.

Jonathan Gresham defended the ROH World Championship against Claudio Castagnoli. In the end, Claudio would beat Gresham for the title. Things were not well before that at all.

As previously reported, Jonathan Gresham asked for his release from ROH/AEW and even cussed out AEW President Tony Khan before the show. According to Sean Sapp behind Fightful’s paywall, Gresham is no longer part of any future plans in AEW and ROH after asking for his release.

However, it was added that no bridges have been burnt after Gresham had a heated argument with Khan before his match against Claudio.

Jonathan Gresham doesn’t figure into AEW/ROH creative plans as of now after asking for his release.

The situation was confirmed by both sides as “getting heated” privately. However, we were told from the AEW side of things, they were happy with how the match between Gresham and Claudio Castagnoli came off, and many respected the professionalism of him continuing with the match. Despite the heated nature of the conversation, it didn’t appear that any bridges were burned. We also have yet to get a confirmation that a release was granted.

It is likely Gresham will be taking a break from pro wrestling for a while now. We will keep you updated on this ongoing story.
