CM Punk may not be Undisputed WWE Champion anymore, but it doesn’t look like he’s leaving the main event scene anytime soon. In fact, the latest backstage update suggests he’ll still have a major role to play at Money in the Bank.
During a WrestleVotes Q&A, JoeyVotes was asked about Punk’s status for the upcoming premium live event. While he didn’t give away WWE’s exact plans, he made it clear that Punk is expected to be on the show.
“CM Punk, I’ve heard, is working the Money in the Bank card.”
That comment is especially interesting because Punk still has to get there first. This Friday on SmackDown, he’ll compete against GUNTHER and Finn Bálor in a triple threat Money in the Bank qualifying match, with only one man advancing to the ladder match.
The comes just weeks after Punk lost the Undisputed WWE Championship to Sami Zayn, ending his title reign. Even without the title, though, it doesn’t look like WWE has any plans to cool him off.
Punk’s road back to the top could start this Friday. If he gets through GUNTHER and Finn Bálor, he’ll be right back in the mix with a chance to grab the Money in the Bank briefcase and put himself one step away from another world title shot.
