AEW brought in an outsider as MJF’s latest hired gun to take on Wardlow on last night’s episode of Dynamite. W. Morrissey, known as Big Cass in WWE and currently major star in Impact Wrestling, came to AEW to try and stop Wardlow from getting his hands on MJF. The finish to the match wasn’t what the fans have grown to expect.

Each week, Wardlow has been ending his matches by crushing his opponent with multiple powerbombs. The ‘powerbomb symphony’ has become a staple in his crusade to escape his contract with Max. During the match with Morrissey, Wardlow hit one powerbomb and got the pin. Dave Meltzer said on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio that Impact likely would not have allowed one of their top wrestlers to take that kind of beating on television.

“I don’t know, but I believe it’s probably political because Morrissey is like, Impact gave them the guy. They were probably OK with Morrissey doing the job, because he’s gonna. But it was like, ‘Do not humiliate our guy.’ So, one powerbomb was OK, but I think that the four would’ve been…

From an Impact standpoint, I wouldn’t say so [that four powerbombs would have been better than one]. One powerbomb and you get pinned is one thing, but the guy just powerbombing your guy over and over again, treating him like that. Yeah, I wouldn’t. If I was Impact, that would be something I would insist on. I would say, ‘No way, four powerbombs. Not for this guy, because we’re pushing him.’ But yeah, he can lose. And obviously, he’s going to lose to the powerbomb.

I would strongly presume – I do not know this, nobody told me this, but, I just know that if I’m Impact, that is one of the things that I would’ve insisted on. Not to humiliate our guy.”

Wardlow got the victory without hitting the powerbomb symphony. That set up a contract signing on next week’s Dynamite. MJF will reveal the stipulations of his match with Wardlow at that time. We will have to wait and see if Tony Khan decides to bring W. Morrissey back anytime soon, but for now, Impact was likely happy to get the exposure.
