WWE’s Intention Behind Raquel Rodriguez’s Debut Angle On SmackDown

Natalya recently showed up in NXT 2.0 to put the up-and-coming stars of WWE on notice. Nattie also got storyline on the most recent episode of SmackDown with one of NXT’s recent main roster call-ups. Raquel Rodriguez and Nattie met in the locker room during a segment on this week’s show.

Nattie was backstage talking to Shayna Baszler about how Rodriguez had suddenly shown up and taken over the locker room. Raquel introduced herself to Natalya, who uncomfortably welcomed her to SmackDown. The entire segment felt a little bit forced, but that was by design.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed the story between Natalya and Raquel Rodriguez. Simply put, the goal is to make Nattie look like a phony person. She knew who Raquel was, but the story WWE is trying to tell has her feigning ignorance.

“The preposterous thing is that we were supposed to think that Nattie had no idea Raquel was there… They’re just two phony people. The story is they’re just two phony people. That was the story they were telling. [Raquel] is a nice person and Nattie is just a phony person, because she’s the heel.”

Ringside News exclusively reportedly that WWE has a plan for Raquel and things are going in that direction. This is not a case of them calling up a big NXT name without anything to do for them.

We will have to wait and see how the storyline between Natalya and Raquel Rodriguez develops. Raquel has been a heel hiding her intentions behind a smile before. She certainly has it in her.

Nattie is pulling double duty, as she will also be working NXT shows for now. It will be interesting to see if WWE can keep her character consistent between the two shows.
