The internet reacted to this name change in big way. Obviously, it will take some adjusting, but that didn’t stop fans from dragging the decision.

Fightful Select reports that they were told WWE had “something very dumb” coming for SmackDown. Pete Dunne’s new name was that “something dumb.” In the end, the name change went down.

Some thought that this new name was a rib on the Bushwhackers, but it’s not clear. After all, Luke is Ridge Holland’s real name, so Luke and Butch are the Bushwhackers. Another theory is that the Butch name is an ode to the 1950s Little Rascals series.

We will have to see what happens next. It was also noted that it was made very clear during the production meeting that nobody was allowed to refer to the Bruiserweight as Pete Dunne. In case you’re wondering, Pete Dunne, or Butch, signed new deal over the Summer.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
