Brian Kendrick was set to make his in-ring return on late December episode of NXT 2.0. The backstage coach and producer was scheduled to take on the monstrous Harland after an angle on a previous show. Kendrick never showed up that night.

NXT has been undergoing some major changes. Triple H’s hand-picked staffers were subject to wholesale releases recently. Several well-known names were fired as part of the purge.

Brian Kendrick survived the wave of releases. It turns out Kendrick had asked to be let go weeks ago. PW Insider reported the surprising news.

“We can confirm that Brian Kendrick, who had most recently been working as a producer on WWE NXT and 205 Live, has requested a release from the company weeks ago and has not been to any TV tapings in Orlando in some time.  We are told Kendrick has been waiting for a release at least six weeks.”

Brian Kendrick appears to be in a similar situation to Mustafa Ali. Ali requested his release but was denied by WWE. Since then, Mustafa has started the #FreeAli movement to pressure WWE into releasing him.

Brian Kendrick sees the writing on the wall. Scotty 2 Hotty also bailed from NXT as soon as he could. We’ll see if WWE makes any moves on the potential releases of Brian Kendrick and Mustafa Ali.
