WWE axed lot of people from their payroll over the last year. The Forgotten Sons were released from WWE at different times, but all three members eventually received a call from Johnny Ace that they never wanted. Steve Maclin is already in Impact Wrestling, but that company wanted more than just him initially.

While speaking toFightful, Maclin revealed that Impact Wrestling wanted to bring him in with Wesley Blake. The two were last seen as Knights of the Lone Wolf with Baron Corbin when he still had his king gimmick. They were previously 2/3 of the Forgotten Sons.

Apparently, that didn’t work out because Blake said that it was important to establish himself as a singles star first.

Originally, IMPACT wanted to bring him in a tag team, but Maclin spoke with Westin (formerly Wesley) Blake and said that it was important to him that he at least try a singles run. Blake was said to be okay with it and understood.

Impact Wrestling had a conversation with Maclin the day his WWE contract was up. D-Lo Brown and Tommy Dreamer were the ones who made that contact. He visited Impact Wrestling in 2020 with Deonna Purrazzo. They obviously liked working together and the rest is history, but Impact Wrestling initially wanted a duo out of the deal.

I love pro wrestling and hate BS. These two things drive me. Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News. Worked in finance before realizing pro wrestling journalism made much less sense. Pro beachballs at pro wrestling shows, pro dives if someone catches, anti bullies, olives, and pineapples on pizza.
