The carnival is coming to Springfield, Illinois! Jeff Jarrett is now a member of the ownership group of the minor league Springfield Sliders. The team is a member of a summer baseball development league, the United States Prospect League. Jarrett was approached by ownership to become a part of the team and said he couldn’t turn it down.

Wrestling Inc. broke the news of Double J‘s new role. He’ll be expected to provide additional entertainment at the ballpark. The team plays a limited 30-32 game season in the Prospect League, so the ballpark sits vacant for more than 300 days a year.

Jarrett will reportedly bring a carnival atmosphere to better use the stadium on non-game days. Circuses, live music, and pro wrestling are all on the menu. He recently talked about the opportunity existing for new pro wrestling promotion after a slew of releases created a lengthy free agent list within the industry.

It is unknown whether Jarrett made any financial investment to join the ownership group. At the moment, it appears he’s there in more of a promotional role and will not have anything to do with baseball operations. Jarrett was invited to become a part of the team by Jamie Toole, a man with extensive baseball experience. He lists himself as “Chief Storyteller” for Capital City Baseball in his Twitter bio.

Jeff Jarrett dabbled in wrestling at minor league ballparks back in 2016. As he was attempting to start up the ill-fated Global Force Wrestling, he booked sold shows (he made money up front, regardless of attendance) at several ballparks, calling it the “Grand Slam” tour. Reports on attendance during the time were not good, but Jarrett made his money anyway, convincing owners that the gimmick would draw fans.

It sounds like this is more of a job than an actual ownership stake unless somebody involved says otherwise. It’s possible that the owners did give JJ a piece of the club. The Sliders have an empty stadium and Jeff Jarrett has experience promoting pro wrestling. Time will tell if the venture succeeds.
