Kenny Omega will be taking some time off to deal with several nagging injuries. The former AEW World Champion will have to do little housekeeping before he does so. Omega is the current AAA Mega Championship, and the company needs to put the title on somebody else lest it sit idle for months while the current champ recovers.

Now, we know that Omega is set to vacate the title. The move could come at any time. In the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer discussed how the company might handle the transition.

“Yeah, it may happen tomorrow. It’s supposed to happen any day now. They will announce a new main event. I don’t know all of the details now, but the rumor is that they will announce a multi-person match, but I don’t know who will be in the match, but it should be out in the next could of days, so yeah, that’s December 4th in Monterrey in the stadium.”

Omega is the longest-reigning AAA Mega champion of all time. He initially won the title during his run as the “belt collector,” where he also captured the Impact World Championship. Omega dropped the AEW title to Adam Page at the Full Gear PPV.

FTR currently hold the AAA tag titles, although they’ve never appeared for the promotion. Plans have been hard to get off the ground to get the team to a show. They missed the most recent TV tapings due to a travel issue.

Omega had a short run with AAA before winning the title from Rey Fenix in October of 2019. He defended the belt against Andre El Idolo at Triplemania XXIX the following August. Now, it appears his run will come to an end without ever being beaten for the championship.
