Kenny Omega informed AEW Dynamite viewers that he was going away for a while last night. It was heavily speculated that he needed to take some time off to deal with several nagging injuries. We now know more about the severity of those ailments.
On the most recent Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said that The Cleaner is suffering from damage to his knees, shoulder, and from a painful abdominal hernia. He will most likely need several surgeries. It’s speculated that February could be the earliest the former AEW champion could return to the promotion.
“He has a lot of issues. Knees, shoulder, abdominal hernia that he’s been working through, there’s others too. So, he’ll be getting multiple surgeries most likely. Everything is to be determined, but I guess he’s getting a lot of these taken care of at the same time, but it’s a lot of parts to rehab at the same time. I’m not sure where it’s all going down.
I have not confirmed he’s doing the AAA show or not, it’s only a couple weeks away. He’s done with AEW for a while. I know he’s hoping February, maybe. It’s premature because they haven’t done the surgeries next. There’s a lot of things he’s working through.”
Kenny Omega lost the AEW World title to Hangman Adam Page at the Full Gear PPV. The company now turns its attention to the build between Page and #1 contender Bryan Danielson. Omega will surely be back in the picture once his injuries are healed.
The title change was a big draw for AEW. Over 150,000 people paid to watch the Full Gear show. It was the company’s second-highest pay-per-view buyrate in history.
Who will step up while Kenny Omega takes time off for his injuries? Let us know in the comments!
