Former WWE Superstar Paul Wight used to be known as the Big Show in WWE. He spent over two decades in the company before he decided to take his skills elsewhere. Wight eventually made his way to AEW, much to the surprise of the pro wrestling world.

The backstage environments in WWE and AEW are undoubtedly different. As a few former WWE Superstars have mentioned in the past. Both companies have their own ideals as to how they conduct their work.

Despite his successful career in WWE, Big Show was often made a joke due to Vince McMahon turning him into a heel or babyface randomly at the drop of a hat. It seems Wight himself was not a fan of that either.

While speaking with Inside The Ropes, Paul Wight talked about his numerous heel and babyface turns during his time in WWE. Wight admitted that it was super frustrating for him.

“Oh, I think it’s super frustrating. One of the things that turning did is made it hard for me to develop a consistent identity, you know, to sell merch. Merchandise is a huge part of our industry and you either have to have a solid run as a really dominant heel where people want to buy your stuff because you’re the antihero and they like it, or you need to have a solid run as a babyface where they love your stuff and everybody wants to buy it. When you’re flip-flopping, a lot of times you’re pissing people off—you’re constantly dividing your audience.”

It seems Wight is more than happy working in AEW thanks to the creative environment provided there and he wouldn’t have it any other way. We will have to wait and see what is next in store for Wight in the company.
