WWE made over dozen releases of contracted talent yesterday. Both the main roster and NXT were subject to the firing spree. As it turns out, the moves were officially signed off on by WWE Director of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis. Fightful Select received the contents of the emails that went out internally within WWE.

There were two emails, one for the main roster releases and one for the NXT releases. The reason given in the internal memos is that the cuts were made due to budget cuts. Laurinaitis specifically points that out in the notes. The main roster email, which included Mia Yim, Keith Lee, Eva Marie, Nia Jax, Gran Metalik, and Lince Dorado, read as cold and businesslike.

“Due to budget cuts, the following WWE talent were released today, November, 4, 2021. Thank you, John Laurinaitis.”

The email that went out regarding the fired NXT wrestlers was equally dry. It got to the point right away. Then, Johnny Ace wished the released talents the best in their future endeavors.

“Due to budgetary cuts, with immediate effect, we’ve come to terms with the following NXT talents. We wish these individuals all the best in their future endeavors.”

WWE is trying to work out a plan so that in the future these roster cuts don’t generate as much negative public response and don’t come as such unexpected surprises. The company is considering only signing most new talent to sixty day contracts. That way, if things don’t work out, it simply serves as long try-out and they don’t have to fire anybody. Additionally, they’re planning to have regular cuts every six months for wrestlers who aren’t improving.
