WWE has been known to keep plans secret from talents when they hold their occasional drafts. Further confirmation of this practice came from WWE superstar Angel Garza.

Several tag teams were surprised to learn they’d been split up in this year’s draft. It seems like every time, the wrestlers are never clued in as to what the company’s plans are. Garza relayed his experience to WWE Espanol in an interview translated into English.

“When we were looking at the draft, we did not know a thing about where we were going, we were just in the locker rooms looking at what was happening. We noticed that Rey & Dominik went to Raw and saw Zelina move too and we thought SmackDown is staying without Latinos, and 2 things were going to happen: or we were getting drafted over there or Damian (Priest) was leaving Raw. Us two (him & Humberto) were with Damian and we were saying ‘or you leave or we leave’ and then we saw Damian was drafted to Raw and we were 99% certain we were going to SmackDown because there were no Latinos at the moment. When we saw our names for SmackDown, we went ‘we from here now’ and it was a surprise. Like for everyone watching at home, we did not expect to be drafted to SmackDown.”

On the most recent SmackDown, Garza and tag partner Humberto Carillo helped Happy Corbin and Madcap Moss to a victory over Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs. The team seems to be adjusting well to their latest role.

The 29-year-old Garza has had a wealth of wrestling experience. His career started in Mexican lucha libre in 2008, where the high flyer adopted his signature style. He has appeared in AAA, Impact, WWE, and all over the independent circuit. He’s a former NXT Cruiserweight champion.

Angel Garza is currently teaming up with Humberto Carillo on SmackDown. You can check the pair out on Friday nights at 8PM eastern on Fox. Perhaps now that the duo has a new home, we’ll see them get some semblance of a push.
