Tony Khan loves to let people know how rich he is. The AEW President also is not afraid to mix it up with the more well-established WWE. After all, Shad Khan has a lot more money than even Vince McMahon.

Khan spoke to Business Insider in a new interview where he spoke candidly about the financing of All Elite Wrestling. He said that his father, Shahid Khan, wasn’t completely convinced to toss millions of dollars into the wrestling game.

“My dad expected it to fail but I convinced him to take a leap. He gave me the money because he said I’d inherit it anyway, so I might as well ‘blow it now.’”

Khan said that the original idea of AEW being an alternative wrestling brand has morphed and evolved into something bigger. He also encouraged fans to enjoy wrestling in their own way.

Tony talked about why he thinks AEW has gained so much popularity. He shared his philosophy on what makes a successful wrestling promotion.

“One of the reasons AEW is really popular is that it’s a great blend of stars who have gotten experience from wrestling in other places and stars who have grown organically. It has to be a good blend of young stars and established stars. When we started, we were a challenger brand and an alternative. Now we’re just a large wrestling company. But fans don’t have to make a choice.”

All Elite Wrestling is building towards their Full Gear pay-per-view. Two major title matches have been announced for the show. AEW Women’s World champion Dr. Britt Baker will defend her title against Tay Conti. The long-awaited main event features AEW World champion Kenny Omega defending against “Hangman” Adam Page.
