WWE became the subject of notoriety when the company released dozens of superstars including mainstays Bray Wyatt and Braun Strowman from their contracts during summer 2021. 205 Live also saw their roster gutted.

WWE had planned a major revamp of 205 Live but changed their decision to proceed with the budget cuts that saw multiple superstars released from their contracts. According to Fightful Select, they also had plans to insert a soon-to-be top start in NXT on the 205 Live roster, but thankfully they reconsidered.

Prior to the cuts, WWE had a big revamp in place for 205 Live, the home of the entertainment juggernaut’s Cruiserweight Division. But the management decided to go ahead with the superstar cuts, shelving any plans it had for a 205 Live resurgence.

WWE had also discussed the possibility of bringing in current NXT North American Champion Carmelo Hayes to the purple and orange brand, but decided against pursuing those plans in the wake of the mass releases.

Fightful has learned that earlier this summer, Hayes was discussed for the Cruiserweight Divsion, which was looking for a major revamp. After the mass releases that affected the division, a decision was made to not have Hayes in that division.

As for Hayes, the “NXT Breakout Star” of 2021 is over the moon after his surprise cash-in victory over Isaiah “Swerve” Scott. Hayes defeated the “Hit Row” main man with a big boot followed by a leg drop.
